Land Rover revealed the Dakar D7X-R Edition of the Defender on November 25, 2025, a few months before the 2026 Dakar Rally, which looks very aggressive. The Defender Dakar D7X-R is set to make its debut at the 2026 Dakar Rally and FIA World Rally-Raid Championship.

The Defender Dakar D7X-R has been specifically designed to run on extreme terrain. This is because the Dakar Rally is one of the toughest races in the world, where there are various types of terrain and extreme weather conditions, and this is why the Defender Dakar D7X-R has been made more capable and durable.
The interior of the Defender Dakar D7X-R features an FIA-regulated navigation system and a heads-up display for the driver, showing necessary information about speed and driving. It has FIA-regulated seats to provide long-lasting comfort for the driver and navigator. The car can hold only 3 spare wheels inside and also comes with some tool kits like hydraulic jacks to lift the car in case of an emergency.

Its engine can run only on advanced sustainable fuel as Per Regulations rather than Standard Pump Petrol.

Defender Dakar D7X-R doesn’t have a rear tailgate spare wheel, which reduces its length by approximately 4.8 meters. Its ground clearance is also quite high, at around 370 mm, making it a hassle to maneuver off-road. It also features large 17-inch front and rear tyres.
