Maruti Suzuki Eeco: Looking Back at its 2010 Launch
By the Bharat Auto Insights Editorial Team · Last reviewed 17 October 2026
Maruti Suzuki launched the Eeco in India in January 2010 as a practical, affordable van with seating for up to seven, powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine. It filled the gap between the Omni and larger MPVs, and remains on sale in updated form.
Who it was for
Large families, small businesses and taxi operators who needed space and low running costs over refinement. Its boxy shape maximised interior room.
Key points at launch
- 1.2-litre petrol engine
- Five- and seven-seat layouts
- Sliding rear doors
- Simple, low-cost mechanicals
Today
The Eeco continues, including factory CNG options, with added safety equipment over the years.
