Harley-Davidson Dealerships in India: Looking Back to 2010
By the Bharat Auto Insights Editorial Team · Last reviewed 17 October 2026
Harley-Davidson officially entered India around 2009–2010, opening its first dealerships in major cities to sell imported big-capacity cruisers. It later assembled some models locally before restructuring its Indian operations in 2020.
The 2010 picture
Early dealerships focused on large metros where demand for premium motorcycles was strongest. High import duties made the bikes expensive, so the brand targeted affluent enthusiasts.
Since then
Harley-Davidson ended its own sales and manufacturing operations in India in 2020 and partnered with Hero MotoCorp to handle sales and service, later collaborating on a smaller-capacity model made in India.
