Every Indian rider needs, at minimum, a properly fitting ISI-certified helmet (BIS IS 4151), and should add gloves, a riding jacket with armour and sturdy footwear. Ventilated mesh gear makes protection practical in hot weather.
Helmet
Helmets sold in India must carry the ISI mark. A full-face helmet offers the most protection. It should fit snugly without pressure points, and the chin strap must always be fastened. Replace a helmet after any significant impact.
Gloves
Hands go out first in a fall. Choose gloves with palm sliders and knuckle protection; mesh gloves work well in summer.
Riding jacket
Look for CE-rated armour at shoulders and elbows, and ideally a back protector. Mesh jackets suit Indian summers; textile jackets with removable liners are versatile.
Boots and trousers
Ankle-covering boots protect against injury and engine heat. Riding trousers or knee guards add protection on longer rides.
Monsoon gear
- Two-piece rain suit
- Anti-fog visor insert or spray
- Waterproof boot covers
- Reflective strips for visibility
